Beneficial Excel Course
I enrolled to the course already fairly familiar with excel but looking to deepen my understanding of the features within the program. To this extent the coverage offered by this course is fantastic, it introduces many of the beneficial features within the program and follows their introduction up with practical demonstrations of their use.
The tutor is clearly very knowledgeable about the subject and presents in a very clear and engaging manner.
A few negatives from the course;
While the coverage of features in the excel program is brilliant this course does not do much to explain how macros can be used in excel, so if this is what you are looking for then this course may not be for you.
Throughout the modules the tutor does occasionally make mistakes when explaining things, and while for the most part these are spotted and clarified, on some instances little explanation is offered as to why something was incorrect or not working.
Finally, the end exam for the course has very little to do with the students understanding of how excel can actually be used. It’s more just a pop quiz of terminology. The examination method does mean it’s difficult to genuinely test the students competence inside excel, however surely the questions could be geared more towards how to use the program rather than asking ‘What does this mean…?’ or ‘Where is this button…?’ It just feels like the exam is essentially pointless in terms of practically using excel in the real world.
Having said that, I want to re-affirm that the course content itself is really very useful to help the student become a more competent user of excel. The speed it is taught at and the progression from Beginner to Advanced level mean that it is applicable to all levels of user and I would recommend this course to anyone who needs to become a more knowledgeable and efficient user of excel.
